Policeman killed by suspect

A police officer was killed and another wounded by a man they stopped for a search in Bangkok's Nong Khaem district early on Thursday morning.

Pol Lt-Col Wichit Sawasdee, duty officer at Nong Khaem police station, said the shooting occured about 3am between Phetkasem Soi 79 and 81 when the two men were patrolling on a motorcycle .
They spotted a tall man with a big build acting in way that seemed suspicious. They told him to stop for a search.
Instead the man opened fire with a gun, killing Pol Snr Sgt-Maj Chukij Charoenthanarak, 42, and wounding Pol Sgt-Maj Prasert Klamsri, 46, before fleeing into the night.
Police would examine picutres from closed-circuit cameras in the area in a bid to identify the killer.
